New proposal for LDC assistance adopted

The WTO Sub-Committee on Least-Developed Countries adopted on 12 February 2001 a major proposal, with key recommendations, to improve the implementation of the Integrated Framework for trade-related technical assistance to LDCs.

It launched a new pilot scheme under which the Integrated Framework will assist LDCs that have demonstrated a clear commitment to "mainstream a trade integration chapter" into their overall development plans and poverty reduction strategies.

The new Pilot Scheme will operate on the basis of a Trust Fund and on-going complementary activities by bilateral donors. The Integrated Framework is a joint undertaking by six core Agencies namely, the IMF, ITC, UNCTAD, UNDP, the World Bank and the WTO.
