Mr. Yousef Hussain Kamal, Minister of Finance, Economy and Commerce of Qatar, and WTO Director-General Mike Moore reaffirmed today their commitment to move ahead with the preparations for the 4th Ministerial Conference in Doha, Qatar, from 9 to 13 November.

Meeting the Director-General at the WTO, Minister Kamal — who will chair the Ministerial Conference — welcomed the support expressed by Mr. Moore and Ministers from WTO member governments.

“We can assure everyone that every measure will be taken to ensure a successful outcome at the 4th Ministerial,” he said.

Mr. Moore said he was confident the Qataris would conduct a Ministerial of high quality and pledged his full commitment to push the preparatory process forward to secure a consensus among the 142 member governments to launch a round of trade liberalization negotiations.

“I am fully confident that Minister Kamal and his team will take every step to ensure the best possible outcome to the Conference,” he said. “We need a round today more than ever to boost confidence in the global economy, in the Multilateral Trading System, and in international cooperation.”
