Mr. Chairman. I would like to join you in warmly welcoming Cape Verde's accession to the WTO. Cape Verde's accession is another sign of confidence in the organization and the multilateral trading system. WTO membership is facilitating Cape Verde integration into the global economy and provides a predictable and stable basis for growth and development, particularly pertinent now as Cape Verde is about to graduate from LDC status. For the WTO, Cape Verde's accession is adding another valuable member to the family and brings us another step closer to universal membership.

The successful completion of the accession process is a commendable achievement for the people and Government of Cape Verde. My congratulations go to H.E. Mr. José BRITO, Minister of Economy, Growth and Competitiveness and his entire team. Accession is a tough process for any government to go through, but in its rigour it also ensures that our new Members are well prepared for membership. I look forward to seeing Cape Verde as an active and constructive participant in the many facets of our work.

Allow also to express my appreciation for the work done by Dave Shark as Chairman of the Working Party.

So, Minister BRITO, colleagues, benvindo Cabo Verde!
