Guatemala, Costa Rica, El Salvador and Honduras expressed serious concern over the Dominican Republic’s safeguard measure on tubular fabric and polypropylene bags, adding that they have started dispute-settlement consultations on this matter.

The European Union, in reply to questions from China, said that its safeguard investigation on wireless wide area networking modems was based on prime facie evidence, and that it was justified to conduct simultaneous anti-dumping and countervailing-duty investigations on the same product.

The EU expressed concern over Indonesia’s growing number of safeguard actions. The United States echoed the EU’s concerns. Indonesia said these safeguard investigations would be conducted objectively and would follow WTO rules.

Egypt expressed serious concern about Jordan’s safeguard measure on ceramic tiles, in particular the use of what it said was outdated data. Jordan said the measure was justified.

The EU questioned the late notification of Morocco’s safeguard investigation on machine-made carpets, and urged Morocco to hold consultations in accordance with the Safeguard Agreement. Egypt shared the EU comments.

The EU said it had participated in the consultation regarding the Philippine’s investigation on testliner board (raw material used in the production of packaging boxes), and maintained that the problems of the domestic industry concerned were not due to imports but to inefficiency and the economic crisis.

The EU questioned the basis of Ukraine’s safeguard investigation on cooling and refrigerating equipment.
