Discussions during the meeting focused on issues related to Kazakhstan’s investment regime, government procurement practices, application of tariff-rate quotas, import licensing procedures, and intellectual property protection. The chair, Mr Vesa Himanen (Finland), reported that some chapters of the report of the working party were being developed in a plurilateral process.

The chair also reported that Kazakhstan’s bilateral negotiations with WTO members on market access for goods and services were at an advanced stage.

Mrs Zhanar Aitzhanova, Kazakhstan’s Minister for Economic Integration, said that the intensity of working party meetings and negotiations in 2012 was a testament to the positive momentum in Kazakhstan’s accession process. She looked forward to concluding the accession in 2013.
