This donation will finance technical assistance programmes and training activities for developing and least developed countries as well as economies in transition. The aim is to enhance their ability to participate effectively in the WTO negotiations and ensure they fully benefit from the results achieved during these negotiations.

WTO Director General Pascal Lamy declared “I welcome Estonia’s continued efforts in helping developing countries to improve their participation in the multilateral trading system”.

Estonia’s Ambassador Jüri Seilenthal stated “Trade has become a necessary tool for development, economic growth and poverty reduction. Even in times of the economic crisis, Estonia has reiterated its stable and long-term commitment to contributions to the WTO trust fund with the objective of assisting the poorest countries in improving their trade capacity and gaining market access”.
