With this last donation, the EU’s overall contribution to WTO trust funds has now reached CHF 12 million.

It is standard practice in the WTO to facilitate the participation of Least Developed Countries (LDCs) at Ministerial Conferences, by establishing of a special trust fund that would cover the travel costs of LDCs’ delegations comprised of one minister and two high level officials.

“I welcome this new contribution which demonstrates the EU’s continuous support to help developing countries in benefiting fully from the multilateral trading system” declared WTO Director General Pascal Lamy.

EU’s Ambassador to the WTO, Angelos Pangratis, stated “the EU will continue providing support to Least Developed Countries with the aim of increasing their participation in, and understanding of, the WTO. Trade can play a major role in development and poverty reduction, and the EU believes that delivering on long-standing requests of the LDCs in the context of the Doha Development Agenda must remain a priority for the WTO. We look forward to an active participation by the LDCs in the upcoming Ministerial Conference”.
