The World Trade
Organization (WTO), today, launched its information service on the Internet. During a
brief inauguration ceremony at the UN International Computing Centre in Geneva, WTO
Director-General Renato Ruggiero said: "As the youngest of all international
organizations, the WTO must make itself well understood and truly accessible. Linking
ourselves to millions of Internet users all over the world is an important step towards
this goal." The new WTO
information service is a World Wide Web server on the Internet. Its address is: http://www.wto.org. Enquiries can be
sent to the following Internet address: webmaster@wto.org.
The WTO Web
pages contain an in-depth description of the organization and its activities, the latest
press releases, a summary of the results of the Uruguay Round trade negotiations, trade
statistics and reports on trade and environment issues. Illustrations include an
organigram of the WTO and a flow-chart on the dispute-settlement process. The WTO server
will be updated regularly and its information base progressively expanded. |
