Outreach activities for parliamentarians and civil society

Outreach activities are a response to challenges in the Doha Declaration for greater transparency in the WTO's operations and improved dialogue with the public.

The objectives of the regional workshops aim at:

• fostering greater understanding of and interest in the multilateral trading system,
   
• informing parliamentarians and civil society representatives on the basic operations of the WTO, key issues on the international trade agenda, and status of the DDA; and,
   
• encouraging dialogue and exchanges of views and ideas among parliamentarians and civil society representatives on trade-related and development-related issues of particular relevance to their regions.

Throughout the regional workshops, parliamentarians and civil society representatives are encouraged to consider their respective roles in multilateral processes and ways to increase parliamentary and public awareness of the international trade agenda.
