Outreach activities for parliamentarians, civil society and the media

Outreach activities aimed at parliamentarians, civil society and the media are part of the WTO's strategy to help legislators, civil society representatives and journalists better understand trade-related issues.  

 

The WTO undertakes outreach activities to increase the transparency of the WTO's operations and to improve dialogue with various audiences. Through workshops held in various countries, the parliamentarians, civil society representatives and journalists are provided with the latest information on WTO activities to increase their awareness of the international trade agenda.

The objectives of the workshops aim are to:

  • foster greater understanding of, and interest in, the multilateral trading system
  • explain the basic operations of the WTO, key issues in the international trade agenda, and the status of the trade negotiations
  • encourage dialogue among the participants on trade and development issues of relevance to their particular regions.
