Consultations

Complaint by the United States

On 12 January 2017, the United States requested consultations with China concerning alleged subsidies that China provides to its producers of primary aluminium.

The United States claimed that the measures appear to be inconsistent with:

  • Articles 5(c), 6.3(a), 6.3(b), 6.3(c) and 6.3(d) of the SCM Agreement; and
     
  • Article XVI:1 of the GATT 1994.

On 23 January 2017, Japan requested to join the consultations. On 27 January 2017, Canada and the Russian Federation requested to join the consultations. On 30 January 2017, the Secretariat received the European Union's request to join the consultations.
