la parole au cours d'une brève cérémonie, M. Moore a
souligné que l'Organisation devait être en mesure de
faire davantage dans le domaine de la formation et
d'augmenter le nombre des participants à ces cours.
Il
a dit être personnellement convaincu que les cours et
autres activités de formation aidaient considérablement
les pays bénéficiaires à renforcer leurs moyens de
participation au système commercial multilatéral, ce
qui, a-t-il ajouté, entraînait des avantages durables
tant pour les gouvernements concernés que pour le
système commercial.
Ont
participé à ce cours des représentants des ministères
du commerce de pays en développement, de pays moins
avancés et de pays dont l'économie est en transition,
dont certains sont actuellement en cours de négociation
de leur accession à l'OMC. Au nom des participants, M.
Georges Singana Maniuri de Vanuatu a remercié le
Secrétariat de l'OMC pour les efforts qu'il avait
déployés pour organiser ce stage.
M.
Maniuri a assuré le Directeur général de l'OMC que ce cours avait renforcé l'aptitude des participants à
défendre les intérêts de leurs pays respectifs et à
intensifier leur participation au système commercial
multilatéral.
Il
a dit que les participants utiliseraient les
connaissances acquises et les diffuseraient, une fois
rentrés dans leur pays.
Le
Directeur général adjoint de l'OMC, M. Paul-Henri
Ravier, a également souligné la nécessité pour les
participants de tirer parti des connaissances et de
l'expérience acquises au cours du cours de trois mois
organisé à l'OMC.
Il
a souligné combien il était important de maintenir et
de renforcer le réseau qui avait été créé au cours
du cours entre les participants eux-mêmes et entre les
participants et le personnel de l'OMC.
Le quinzième cours de politique commerciale de l'OMC
s'est déroulé du 18 septembre au 8 décembre. Trois
autres stages sont prévus en 2001.
