L'OMC lance le 18ème cours de politique commerciale
Des fonctionnaires nationaux venant de 30 pays et territoires douaniers ont assisté hier à la séance d'ouverture du 18ème cours de politique commerciale de l'OMC. Cette brève cérémonie a été présidée par M. Ablassé Ouedraogo, Directeur général adjoint de l'OMC, qui a accueilli tous les participants au nom de M. Mike Moore.

M. Ouedraogo a fait observer que les 30 fonctionnaires chargés des questions commerciales auraient l'occasion unique de suivre, de l'intérieur, les travaux de l'OMC. L'Organisation traverse un moment important dans sa jeune existence, marqué par l'accession de la Chine et du Taipei chinois, dont les processus sont arrivés à leur toute dernière étape, et par les débats préparatoires en vue de la prochaine Conférence ministérielle qui sont entrés dans une phase décisive pour parvenir à un consensus sur les futures négociations commerciales.
M. Ouedraogo a mis l'accent sur les actions menées par l'OMC pour contribuer au renforcement des capacités des pays en développement et des économies en transition en matière commerciale. Il a invité les participants au cours à prendre une part active à la formation prévue. Il s'est déclaré convaincu que des fonctionnaires nationaux bien informés contribueront de façon déterminante à consolider le système commercial international et à le rendre véritablement multilatéral.
Pendant les trois mois que durera le cours, c'est-à-dire jusqu'au 30 novembre, les 30 participants seront familiarisés, grâce à des conférences, des tables rondes et des exercices de simulation, avec presque toutes les activités menées dans le cadre de l'OMC et avec les aspects liés au commerce des travaux d'autres organisations internationales établies à Genève.
