The International Meat Council held its thirty-first regular meeting on 15 December 1994 under the Chairmanship of Ms. Brid Cannon of Ireland (Secretariat report of the meeting, IMC/38, refers). The session of the Council was preceded by the meeting of the Meat Market Analysis Group on 14-15 December 1994 under the Chairmanship of Mr. Peter May of Australia.

The Council and the Meat Market Analysis Group reviewed market developments with respect to meat production, consumption, trade and prices on the basis of questionnaires submitted by participants as well as the Secretariat's situation and outlook report and statistical summary tables. The Meat Market Analysis Group continued its in-depth analysis of meat consumption trends.

The Council reviewed a Secretariat report entitled "Summary of the Results of the Uruguay Round in the Meat Sector" which was subsequently released as a Special Annex to the annual publication "The International Markets for Meat, 1994-1995".

At its meeting in June 1994, the Council had decided to terminate the Arrangement Regarding Bovine Meat with the entry into force of the WTO Agreement (IMC/36, refers). The Council agreed that no transitional arrangements between the Arrangement Regarding Bovine Meat and the International Bovine Meat Agreement, which entered into force on 1 January 1995, were necessary.
