WITHDRAWAL OF THE UNITED STATES FROM THE TOKYO ROUND

Communication from the United States

The following communication, dated 27 October 1995, from the United States Trade Representative to the Director-General has been received with the request that it be circulated to the Parties to the Agreement on Government Procurement (1988).

I have the honour to notify you of the decision of the Government of the United States of America to withdraw from the Agreement on Government Procurement, done at Geneva on 12 April 1979.

I am providing you this notice of withdrawal pursuant to Article IX:8 of the Agreement. This action is being taken so that it can take effect by 1 January 1996, the date for entry into force for the United States of the new Agreement on Government Procurement, Annex 4 to the Marrakesh Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization.
