The main objective of this Workshop was to
provide an opportunity for information exchange on the linkages between
trade, transport and the environment, with a particular focus on air
emissions. The Workshop consisted of briefings by relevant international
organizations on the work their organizations undertake on the
environmental impact of international transportation.
The Workshop provided an overview, addressing
the linkages between trade, transport and the environment, the relevance
of different modes of transport in international trade, the
environmental impact of specific modes of transport, projections of
future environmental impact from international transport, policy
instruments being used to limit negative environmental impacts, and the
challenges and opportunities geographically distant, island, and
landlocked countries are experiencing.
