The WTO Secretariat assists Members in the development, administration and application of the various Agreements. This entails a variety of supporting functions for relevant WTO bodies (councils, committees, working parties, etc.), the provision of technical assistance and advice to developing countries and countries in accession, the analyses of trade and trade policy developments in individual economies and overall, and the contribution of legal information and advice in dispute cases. The Secretariat is headed by a Director General and has some 500 staff, including some 150 professionals in operational Divisions (excluding interpretation, translation, etc.). Work related to the GATS is provided and/or coordinated by the Trade in Services Division. The International Trade Centre UNCTAD/WTO, also headquartered in Geneva, provides trade-related intelligence and expertise for economic operators (exporters, importers and their associations).
