Biography — Naguib Sawiris

Naguib Sawiris founded and led Orascom Telecom Holding in late 1997. In 2005, he founded and chaired “Wind Telecom” until May 2011. Mr. Sawiris is also the recipient of numerous honorary degrees, industry awards and civic honors, for outstanding services rendered to many countries. Mr. Sawiris is the President of the German-Arab Chamber of Industry and Commerce. He is a member of the International Advisory Committee to the NYSE Board of Directors (IAC), the Trustees and the Board of Directors of the Arab Thought Foundation, and the Board of Trustees of the French University in Egypt (UFE). He is also a board member of the International Advisory Board to the National Bank of Kuwait, the Supreme Council of Sciences and Technology, the Egyptian Council for Foreign Affairs, and the Consumer Rights Protection Association of Egypt. In May 2011, he played an active role in the Egyptian revolution and founded the liberal party “Free Egyptians”.
