MORE:
The Workshop is organized by the Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation (ITTC) in cooperation with the Agriculture and Commodities Division (AGCD). It is a sixth event of this type held in English since 2009; similar workshops in Spanish took place in 2010 and in French in 2011 and 2012. Over time, there have been new elements added to the programme, including individual sessions with Secretariat staff to discuss country-specific notification issues and hands-on use of the Agriculture Information Management System which is available on the WTO website.
This specialized technical assistance and training activity is offered to capital-based government officials with direct responsibility in the preparation of notifications under the WTO Agreement on Agriculture. The objective is to enable members to fulfil their notification obligations in a timely manner and to enhance the capacity of members to participate in the review of notifications in the Committee on Agriculture.
The Workshop is “level 3”, the highest level of training activity implemented within the WTO’s progressive learning framework. At this advanced level, its purpose is to offer participants hands-on experience with notification requirements and formats through practical exercises, case studies and group presentations. In addition, it provides a platform to discuss best practices and specific technical issues that members may face in preparing and analysing agriculture notifications.
On the last day of the Workshop, participants will meet in one-to-one sessions with AGCD staff to discuss any pending matters or questions concerning agriculture notifications.
