MORE:
The course was opened by H.E. Mr Kyonglim Choi, Permanent Representative of the Republic of Korea to the WTO, and Mr Maarten Smeets, Chief of the Technical Assistance Coordination, Partnerships and Internship Programmes section of the WTO's Institute for Training and Technical Cooperation.
The ATPC represents the highest level of training (level 3) in the WTO's progressive learning programme and is targeted at participants who already possess a sound knowledge of the WTO and its agreements.
The course focuses on helping participants develop and apply practical skills on issues such as trade policy analysis, formulation and implementation as well as trade negotiations, dispute settlement and trade monitoring. Both legal and economic aspects of WTO rules and disciplines are examined in a series of interactive sessions, including case studies, simulations and exercises. Roundtable discussions provide a platform for practical exchanges, sharing of experiences and best practices as well as debating current trade-related topics. Participants are expected to prepare and deliver a presentation relating to a trade policy topic.
At the opening of the course, participants were encouraged to adopt a critical and constructive approach to learning as well as to be proactive in maximizing the benefits from exchanges of ideas, perspectives and opinions, both with each other and with the experts involved in the course.
