WTO CHAIRS PROGRAMME
More
The University of Mauritius (UoM) worked in collaboration with the WTO Chairs Programme to provide the logistical and academic support needed to run the course. Several WTO staff from various divisions delivered presentations. Mauritian and other African speakers also contributed to the Regional Trade Policy Course.
Many important topics were covered, such as agriculture, tariffs and customs valuation, accessions, dispute settlement, sanitary and phytosanitary measures, technical barriers to trade, trade in services, intellectual property, and environmental and development issues.
The training included quizzes before and after each module to evaluate participants' understanding of the topic. The training also included a visit to Customs departments at the Port Area, Port Louis and the Alteo Sugarcane Factory, Union Flag.
At the end of the course, the participants were assessed on their participation in the course activities and via a final exam. This resulted in a 100% success rate. An award ceremony took place on 6 July 2018 at the UoM in the presence of the Vice Chancellor of UoM, WTO Deputy Director-General Frederik Yonov Agah, and Seetanah Lutchmeenaraidoo, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Regional Integration and International Trade of Mauritius.
