"Peru has always been a dynamic member of the organization and a strong supporter of the multilateral trading system," DG Azevêdo noted.  "Peru is also taking a lead role in efforts to secure an agreement at the WTO on strengthening disciplines related to fisheries subsidies. Peru is a founding member of the WTO and joined the WTO's predecessor, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), in October 1951.
