"Peru has always been a dynamic member of the organization and a strong supporter of the multilateral trading system," DG Azevêdo noted.  "Peru is also taking a lead role in efforts to secure an agreement at the WTO on strengthening disciplines related to fisheries subsidies. We look forward to Peru's continued positive engagement in this and other areas of our work."

Peru is a founding member of the WTO and joined the WTO's predecessor, the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade (GATT), in October 1951.
