For a week seminar participants got a first-hand view of current WTO issues and global trade topics. Subjects included reform of the organization, initiatives on e-commerce and MSMEs, trade in services, agriculture negotiations, the trade-environment nexus, fisheries subsidies negotiations and trade policy reviews.

Presentations were made by WTO officials specializing in different domains and three representatives of South American Members: Ambassador José Luis Cancela of Uruguay, current President of the Council on Trade in Goods, Ambassador Roberto Zapata of Mexico, chair of the negotiating group on fisheries subsidies, and Débora Cumes,Counsellor at the Mission of Guatemala, who for the past year has chaired the Committee on Agriculture. 

The participants also visited the Palais des Nations, the European headquarters of the UN, for a presentation on the UN Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the International Trade Centre (ICT), where they met with ICT Executive Director, Arancha González.

The journalists work with the press, radio and television in the following countries: Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Colombia, Costa Rica, Cuba, Ecuador, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua, Panama, Paraguay, Peru and Uruguay.
