TRADE AND ENVIRONMENT

More

The event will kick off with a meeting of the WTO's Committee on Trade and Environment. This will be followed by a high-level session co-hosted by the United Nations Environment Programme and the WTO Secretariat.

The session will focus on how to use trade policies as catalysts for a green and sustainable economic recovery from the COVID-19 crisis. It will also look at how to make global supply chains greener and more resilient.

Workshops will be dedicated to issues such as plastics pollution and trade, climate change and natural disasters, fossil fuel subsidies, and the role of e-commerce in fostering a green economic recovery.

A group of WTO members will formally launch their joint proposal for structured discussions at the WTO on trade and environmental sustainability. The inaugural meeting of an informal dialogue on plastics pollution and environmentally sustainable plastics trade will also take place during the week.

Additional sessions will be dedicated to a stakeholder perspective on trade, environment and sustainable development and interactions with Geneva students on the future of trade and the environment.

The full Trade and Environment Week programme is available here. The high-level event and workshops are open to the public; registration is required.
