Director-General appoints new head of Legal Affairs Division

World Trade Organization Director-General, Mr. Mike Moore, today announced the appointment of Mr. S. Bruce Wilson as new Director of the WTO Legal Affairs Division.

“I am very pleased to welcome Mr. Wilson to our team”, said Mr. Moore. “Bruce brings to the WTO formidable academic and legal qualifications. He also brings a wealth of experience as a past international trade negotiator and practising lawyer. Bruce will take up an important position in our organization and I am convinced he will do an outstanding job”.

Mr. Wilson is a US national who has most recently been practising law, primarily in the international trade and public policy areas, in a private firm in Washington. Mr. Wilson has served previously as Staff Director of the US House of Representatives Ways and Means SubCommittee on Trade and as negotiator in the United States Trade Representative's Office. Mr. Wilson takes up his duties at the WTO on 16 September.

“As my term at the WTO is shortly to conclude, I have made this appointment after consulting with my successor, Dr. Supachai Panitchpakdi, who supported Mr. Wilson”, said Mr. Moore. “I fully agree with Dr.  Supachai. The selection process was extensive and exhaustive. Both Dr. Supachai and myself have every confidence that Mr. Wilson will make a substantial contribution to the work of the WTO Secretariat”.
