The objective of the STDF is to help developing countries and least-developed countries (LDCs) establish and implement sanitary and phytosanitary (SPS) measures for health protection and expand their ability to gain or maintain access to international markets.

The DDAGTF finances a wide range of trade-related technical assistance activities to help developing countries and LDCs improve their participation in the Doha Round, the latest round of trade negotiations among WTO members.

"I welcome Finland's generous contribution, which will help to improve the trading prospects of developing and least-developed countries by increasing their integration into the global economy," declared WTO Director-General Roberto Azevêdo.

Finland’s Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade, Ms Lenita Toivakka stated: "Trade can play an important role in sustainable growth and this needs to be reflected in the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals currently under discussion. Finland appreciates the support for developing and least-developed countries provided by the WTO’s Aid for Trade initiative.”

Since 2000, Finland has donated to the various WTO trust funds a total of CHF 12,928,000.
