Korea’s contribution will support WTO training programmes aimed at helping developing countries and least-developed countries (LDCs) participate more effectively in WTO negotiations and other WTO activities. The programmes also help these countries meet their WTO obligations and fully benefit from their WTO membership.

WTO Director-General Roberto Azevêdo said: "Korea’s donation is important in promoting the active participation of developing countries and LDCs in global trade negotiations. I welcome Korea’s efforts to help the WTO’s poorest members to reap the greatest possible benefits from the global trading system.”

Korea’s Ambassador Kyong-lim Choi said: “As the world witnessed from Korea’s own development experience, trade has been an essential and powerful tool for economic growth and poverty reduction. It is my hope that our donation can help increase the participation of developing countries, and especially LDCs, in global value chains.”

Since 2002, Korea has contributed CHF 4,607,504 to WTO trust funds.
