Following the approval of the chairs by the General Council, Director-General Roberto Azevêdo thanked the departing General Council chair, Ambassador Fernando de Mateo of Mexico, for his excellent work. He said: “With your sheer determination and wealth of knowledge and experience, you have steered the General Council to function smoothly in 2015. And of course this includes the process of intense consultations leading to Nairobi. Your commitment was decisive in achieving successful outcomes at MC10.”

DG Azevêdo congratulated the new General Council chair, Ambassador Harald Neple of Norway. He said: “This appointment is the recognition of the extensive work that you have carried out for the WTO. In particular, I would like to thank you for your efficient stewardship of the DSB [Dispute Settlement Body] and your tireless efforts in the run-up to Nairobi in your role as a Facilitator.”
