Over 2,800 training activities have been organized since the fund was created in 2001.

Director-General Roberto Azevêdo said: “Canada's latest contribution will support government officials from developing countries in gaining important skills that will help them create new opportunities for their business communities. Canada's continued support is very welcome.”

Canada's WTO Ambassador, Stephen de Boer, said: “As part of Canada’s commitment to the multilateral trading system, we are pleased to continue to support the WTO’s Global Trust Fund. I am confident that this contribution will allow the WTO to continue to organise workshops and seminars, including expert seminars on agriculture trade issues, that will deepen developing countries' awareness of current trade policy issues.”

Overall, Canada has donated CHF 13 million to the various WTO trust funds over nearly 20 years.
