Close to 2,800 activities have been organised under this fund over 20 years.

WTO Director-General Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala said: “I welcome the EU's commitment to helping developing countries and LDCs increase their expertise on WTO-related matters and trade policy issues. By strengthening their trade know-how, trade government officials will be better equipped to ensure trade delivers benefits for people across the world.”

The European Union's WTO Ambassador, João Aguiar Machado, said: “Increasing global challenges underline the need for more multilateral governance and rules-based international cooperation. The EU remains strongly committed to the WTO and to the further integration of developing countries — and especially least-developed countries — into the multilateral trading system. We are pleased to be able to continue supporting these joint efforts through the WTO.”

In addition to EU member states making individual contributions, the EU has donated approximately EUR 30.6 million (just under CHF 31 million) to WTO trust funds overall.
