As part of the complementary and growing relationship between UNCTAD and the WTO, the heads of the two organizations met informally Thursday (17 October) to build on their preparatory efforts for the forthcoming meeting of ministers from least-developed countries.

Rubens Ricupero, Secretary-General of UNCTAD, and Renato Ruggiero, Director-General of the WTO, focused their efforts on creating a successful framework for the ministerial meeting which has been organized by the WTO Secretariat and will be held in Geneva from 13 to 15 November 1996.

The meeting was the latest collaborative effort involving the two organizations and was held in a cooperative spirit reflective of the strong relationship that has grown between UNCTAD and the WTO. UNCTAD and WTO are working more and more in tandem on a range of issues of interest to their members.
