Abstract

This seminar will discuss the findings of a detailed analysis of the crisis-era trade distortions that hold back EU exports compared to American, Chinese, and Japanese rivals. Evidence is presented on the exposure of EU exports to different foreign trade distortions, on the trade distortions most responsible for that exposure, and on their effects. Implications for the EU commercial policy and the multilateral trading system will be discussed as well. An executive summary of this study, which was commissioned by the Swedish National Board of Trade, can be found at http://voxeu.org/article/how-foreign-trade-distortions-hold-back-european-exporters.
