WTO Future Green Innovators Challenge
The health of our planet is beset with problems. Are you a young person with a solution? The WTO is calling for young innovators with creative ideas for tackling environmental challenges through trade while supporting the community and economy. A small change can make a big impact!
The environmental challenges we face today are numerous and inter-related, such as climate change, air and water pollution, biodiversity loss, and plastic waste.
Trade-driven growth, without effective policies in place, can lead to environmental degradation, but — harnessed correctly — can be tool for environmental solutions.
In the lead up to the UN's 26th Conference of Parties (COP26) in November 2021, the WTO is launching a video pitch challenge, inviting young people around the world between 12–18 years old to present an eco-friendly idea that secures a triple-win for the planet, people, and prosperity.
Maybe your idea is about how to manufacture something in a more sustainable manner, or how we can use less energy, or reduce waste. Maybe it is about a product that we use daily, that you have tweaked into a more environmentally friendly substitute. It could be about our water, air, forests, and everything in between. It can be a vision of technology for the future or a plan for new systems of doing things. If it is about how to make our natural environment better, you are on the right track!
By offering a platform for sharing innovations, this contest aims to build a community of Future Green Innovators and shine a light on bright ideas for a wider audience.
How to participate
- Post a video, maximum 60 seconds, on your own TikTok or Instagram account pitching your idea.
- When posting the video, use the hashtag #WTOFutureGreenInnovators, so that we, at the WTO, can find it.
- Make sure to post your video by 23:59 (CEST; UTC+2) on 31 March 2022.
- Please ensure your video can be seen by us, by setting your video or account to public before posting
A selection of the best video pitches will be posted on the WTO webpage and social media, and you will be invited to present your idea at a future WTO event to reach a broader, global audience.
Prize
The three winners will be invited to present their ideas at a WTO event to draw them to the attention of a global audience and business networks. Their pitches will be promoted on the WTO website and social media channels.
Other rules and conditions
All participants must be between 12-18 years old.
By submitting videos to the challenge, participants agree that personal data, especially name, may be shared and otherwise used for the purposes of, and within the context of, the challenge, WTO institutional events, and any other activity of the WTO.
