Following the recommendation in the 1996 Report of the Committee on Trade and Environment to the Singapore Ministerial Conference, the WTO Secretariat compiles annually an environmental database (EDB). Each EDB reports all environment-related notifications under WTO Agreements and environmental measures and policies mentioned in Trade Policy Reviews (TPRs).
The EDB has been prepared under the WTO Secretariat's own responsibility and without prejudice to the positions of Members and to their rights and obligations under the WTO.
Starting with EDB 2009, the EDB is being circulated in two parts: (i) a report presenting an overall analysis of the environment-related notifications and TPRs; (ii) an electronic table providing the underlying data used for analysis. The electronic table enables users to search through all EDB environment-related information and retrieve pre-defined summary tables and graphs.
The WTO conducts regular reviews of individual countries’ trade policies. For each review, two documents are prepared: a policy statement by the government and a detailed report written independently by the WTO Secretariat.
