POUR EN SAVOIR PLUS:
The course, which represents the highest level of training (“level 3”), was attended by 25 government officials from WTO members and observers working in the field of sanitary and phytosanitary measures. Participants engaged in hands-on training on SPS-related matters, ranging from addressing national implementation issues to the identification of SPS-related market access difficulties.
Participants benefited from attending an SPS Committee meeting as well as a Workshop on Pesticide Maximum Residue Levels. This not only exposed them to the day-to-day functions of the Committee but also provided an opportunity for networking and experience sharing with delegates and experts from the WTO and other intergovernmental organisations, such as the Codex Alimentarius Commission, the International Plant Protection Convention and the World Organisation for Animal Health.
As part of the course, all participants elaborated on an action plan to address implementation and/or market access difficulties encountered in their countries. Work on these action plans is now under way and participants will report on their progress at a follow-up session in July 2017.
