L'OMC lance le 16ème cours de politique commerciale
Au cours d'une brève cérémonie qui s'est tenue le 15 janvier, M. Paul-Henri Ravier, Directeur général adjoint de l'Organisation mondiale du commerce, a ouvert officiellement le 16ème cours de politique commerciale organisé sous l'égide de l'OMC.

M. Ravier a fait observer que, pour le Secrétariat de l'OMC, la situation était telle que la demande de formation dépassait largement les ressources financières et humaines dont il disposait. Il a ajouté que l'OMC et son Directeur général portaient un grand intérêt aux activités destinées à améliorer la capacité des pays en développement, et en particulier des moins avancés d'entre eux, de participer au système commercial multilatéral.
C'est la première fois que des fonctionnaires du Bélarus, de la Dominique, de Géorgie, de Lettonie, de Lituanie, de Moldova et de l'ex-République yougoslave de Macédoine participent aux cours de politique commerciale ordinaires.
Ce cours de 12 semaines se terminera le 6 avril 2001. Depuis leur création en 1955, 94 cours de politique commerciale ont été organisés sous l'égide du GATT, puis de l'OMC, et près de 2 000 fonctionnaires ont pu suivre cette formation. L'OMC organise aussi des cours de politique commerciale de courte durée dans le cadre de son programme de coopération technique.
