When the CONTRACTING PARTIES set the dates for the Forty-Fourth Session, this was done "bearing in mind the possibility for the Chairman of the CONTRACTING PARTIES, in consultation with delegations, to fix the dates and the duration of the Session with greater precision in the course of 1988, and even to modify the dates if circumstances made this desirable". (SR.43/6).

Having consulted with delegations in this regard, and in the light of the arrangements to be made for the meeting at Ministerial level of the Trade Negotiations Committee in Montreal in early December 1988, I wish to inform contracting parties that the Forty-Fourth Session of the CONTRACTING PARTIES will be held in Geneva on 7-9 November 1988.
