AGREEMENT ON IMPLEMENTATION OF ARTICLE VII OF THE

GENERAL AGREEMENT ON TARIFFS AND TRADE

DONE AT GENEVA ON 12 APRIL 1979

 

NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE

I have the honour to inform you that on 13 January 1989 the Government of Turkey deposited with me an instrument of ratification relating to the above-mentioned Agreement, thereby recognizing as fully binding the signature affixed by its plenipotentiary on 5 February 1986. The instrument of ratification contained the following communication:

"1. In conformity with the dispositions of the first paragraph of Article 21 of this Agreement, the Government of Turkey delays the application of this Agreement for a period of 5 years.

"2. In conformity with the dispositions of paragraph 2 of Article 21 of this Agreement, the Government of Turkey delays the application of Article 1, paragraph 2(b)(iii) and Article 6 of the Agreement for an additional period of 3 years to begin from the date of the entry into force of all the Articles of the Agreement.

"3. In conformity with the provisions of paragraph 4 of the Protocol, the Government of Turkey reserves the right to provide that the relevant provisions of Article 4 of the Agreement shall apply only when the customs authorities agree to the request to reverse the order of Articles 5 and 6.

"4. In conformity with the provisions of paragraph 5 of he Protocol, the Government of Turkey reserves the right to provide that the second paragraph of Article 5 of the Agreement shall be applied in accordance with the provisions of the relevant note thereto, whether or not the importer so requests."

In terms of its Article 24, the Agreement shall enter into force for Turkey on 12 February 1989.

This notification is furnished in accordance with Article 30 of the Agreement.
