AGREEMENT ON INTERPRETATION AND APPLICATION

OF ARTICLES VI, XVI AND XXIII OF THE

GENERAL AGREEMENT ON TARIFFS AND TRADE

DONE AT GENEVA ON 12 APRIL 1979

NOTIFICATION OF ACCEPTANCE

I have the honour to inform you that on 7 May 1990 the Government of Colombia accepted the above-mentioned Agreement. The acceptance was accompanied by the following declaration:

"1. In conformity with Article 14:5 of the Agreement on Interpretation and Application of Articles VI, XVI, XXIII of the General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade, the Government of Colombia recognizes that it is desirable to restrict the use of export subsidies. Consequently, the Government of Colombia undertakes to refrain from establishing any export subsidy when the use of such subsidies is inconsistent with its competitive and development needs.

2. The Government of Colombia considers that its present policy of assistance to industry, including its policy in the export sector, is consistent with its competitive and development needs, and therefore does not intend to establish new programmes that are inconsistent with the provisions of the GATT Subsidies Code.

3. The Government of Colombia understands that it will not be subject to the review mechanism mentioned in Article 14:8 of the Code until the end of 1995."

In terms of paragraph 4 of its Article 19, the Agreement will enter into force for Colombia on 6 June 1990.

This notification is furnished in accordance with paragraph 12 of Article 19 of the Agreement.
