I wish to refer to my communication dated 5 August 1993 (Let/1842) regarding the dates and venue of the Forty-Ninth Session of the CONTRACTING PARTIES. After having consulted with a large number of delegations I have sensed a strong convergence of views on the need to postpone the Session until after the date which has been set for the conclusion of the Uruguay Round negotiations, i.e., 15 December 1993.

I therefore propose to convene the Forty-Ninth Session of the CONTRACTING PARTIES on 25-27 January 1994, with the possibility of continuing on 28 January, if necessary. The Session will be held in the International Conference Centre, Geneva.
