AGREEMENT ON IMPLEMENTATION OF ARTICLE VII OF THE

GENERAL AGREEMENT ON TARIFFS AND TRADE

DONE AT GENEVA ON 12 APRIL 1979

Notification of Acceptance

 

I have the honour to inform you that on 2 March 1994 the above-mentioned Agreement was accepted by the Government of Peru. The acceptance was accompanied by the statement reproduced below. In accordance with its Article 24, the Agreement will enter into force for Peru on 1 April 1994.

The Government of Peru wishes to avail itself of the following provisions relating to special and differential treatment for developing countries:

- Article 21, paragraph 1, delaying the application of the provisions of the Agreement for a period of five years; and

- Article 21, paragraph 2, delaying the application of Article 1.2(b)(iii) and Article 6 for a period of three years following the application of all other provisions of the Agreement by Peru.

The Government of Peru also wishes to make the following reservations:

- Under the terms of Article I, paragraph 3, of the Protocol, the Government of Peru wishes to make a reservation concerning the retention of officially established minimum values;

- Under the terms of Article I, paragraph 4, of the Protocol, the Government of Peru reserves the right to provide that the relevant provision of Article 4 of the Agreement shall apply only when the customs authorities agree to the request to reverse the order of Articles 5 and 6; and

- Under the terms of Article I, paragraph 5, of the Protocol, the Government of Peru reserves the right to provide that Article 5.2 of the Agreement shall be applied in accordance with the provisions of the relevant note thereto whether or not the importer so requests.

This notification is furnished in accordance with Article 30 of the Agreement.
