1. MEETINGS

The Forty-Sixth Session of the CONTRACTING PARTIES will be held in the Centre William Rappard, 154 rue de Lausanne, Geneva (Tel:  739.51.11).

The opening meeting will be on Wednesday, 12 December 1990 at 3 p.m.

The plenary meetings will take place in the Council Room.

Due to space limitations, contracting parties will be allocated a limited number of seats in the Council Room, where plenary meetings will take place. Their additional delegates as well as observers from non-contracting party governments and international organizations will be allocated seats in Room D, from which they will be able to follow the proceedings by means of an audio hook-up.

2. HOURS OF MEETINGS

Subject to such adjustments as may be necessary, the hours of plenary meetings will be:

Wednesday, 12 December: 3 p.m. - 6 p.m.

Thursday, 13 December : 10 a.m. - 1 p.m.

3 p.m. - 6 p.m. (if necessary)

3. INTERPRETATION

Simultaneous interpretation will be provided in English, French and Spanish.

4. PREPARED SPEECHES

As the Brussels Ministerial meeting of the Uruguay Round Trade Negotiations Committee will have taken place only in the preceding week, it is possible that a number of contracting parties and observers will refrain from making prepared statements under Item 1, Activities of GATT. This would not preclude them from submitting a written statement for inclusion in the Summary Records.

In relation to the preparation of statements under Item 1, it will be recalled that statements at Sessions of the CONTRACTING PARTIES have by practice been kept short. The Chairman has requested that those delegates who do wish to speak, aim not to exceed five minutes, which normally represents about two pages typed in single spacing.

Unless instructions to the contrary are received from the delegations concerned, original texts of prepared statements will be made available to the Press immediately after delivery, and when issued as documents, will not be restricted.

The task of the Secretariat, in particular of the interpreters, the Summary Records Officer and the Information Officer, will be greatly facilitated if five copies of any texts are supplied to the Summary Records Officer as long in advance as possible.

5. TELEPHONE COMMUNICATIONS

During plenary meetings, delegates who are requested on the telephone will be called out of the meeting room to one of the telephones situated near the Council Room or Room D.

All incoming calls should be made to the following telephone numbers:

Reception Desk: 739.52.42

6. REGISTRATION

Registration forms will be available in the Council Room and in Room D, as well as at the Reception Desk. The List of Representatives will be issued after the Session.

7. TRANSPORT

The Centre William Rappard is served by bus lines 4 and 44.

Taxis can be asked for at the Reception Desk.

8. BANK

An office of the Swiss Bank Corporation is located on the ground floor of the Centre William Rappard.
