It will draw on relevant work and studies carried out by various international organizations.

This workshop is an opportunity for WTO members to deepen their knowledge and understanding of recent developments taking place in the private sector in the fields of environmental standards as well as certification and labelling.

The workshop will look into questions such as: What are environmental private standards? What are the issues specific to these standards? What are the main challenges and opportunities faced by producers and exporters?

The workshop will bring attendees deeper into the proliferation and possible harmonization of these private standards, transparency in the standard development processes, environmental impact and effectiveness of these standards, as well as capacity building in this field.
