The 16 participants in the training programmes have been in Geneva since 1 May 2012 to learn more about the work of the WTO.

The training on the reference centres was provided in collaboration with the Economic Research and Statistics Division, the WTO Library, the Information and External Relations Division as well as the Information Management Service. The training included theoretical exercises, practical workshops and group discussions. Its aim is to provide training on the most appropriate tools for the day-to-day functioning of reference centres.

The databases covered in the training included the WTO's Integrated Database, the Consolidated Tariff Schedules Database and the Statistics Database.

At the end of the training, the participants indicated that they had gained a comprehensive understanding of the Reference Centre Programme, its role and how it functions. Furthermore, they indicated that they would be able to relay this information to others once back in their capitals. Suggestions were made on how to strengthen the programme next year.
