The chairman of the Appellate Body, Ujal Singh Bhatia, informed the Dispute Settlement Body (DSB) chairman, Ambassador Junichi Ihara, that Mr Kim expects to be appointed as minister in the Korean government shortly and that the resignation was with immediate effect.

Mr Bhatia thanked Mr Kim for his collegiality and the contributions he made to the work of the Appellate Body. He expressed his hope that the DSB would proceed to fill this vacancy, along with other Appellate Body vacancies, without delay.
