The workshop, which was organized by the Trade and Environment Division at the request of the LDC Group of the WTO,(1) enabled participants to build on their knowledge of key subjects at the crossroads between trade and the environment, such as the circular economy, climate change, fisheries, environmental goods, and multilateral environmental agreements (MEAs), and of the work of the Committee on Trade and Environment in regular and special session. The WTO Environmental Database was also presented to participants, as well as the Matrix on Trade-Related Measures Pursuant to Selected MEAs.
Representative of the International Labour Organization (ILO), Mr Moustapha Kamal Gueye, presented the results of studies carried out by the ILO on heat stress resulting from global warming and its impact on economic productivity, and on various actions aimed at creating green jobs in LDCs.
At the end of the workshop, the representatives called for continued efforts to build the capacity of LDCs in the areas of trade and the environment.
