Dr Supachai Panitchpakdi, Director-General of the WTO, said: “I thank
Germany for its considerable and regular contributions to the Doha Fund.
Germany's generosity plays an important role towards enhancing
countries' participation in the Doha round of negotiations. Technical
assistance is an essential tool to train developing countries'
representatives and demand for it is high.”
With this new pledge, the contribution of Germany to the Doha Trust Fund
since 2001 amounts to nearly CHF 6 million. The Doha Development Agenda
Global Trust Fund was created following the WTO Ministerial Conference
in Doha, in November 2001, which launched a new round of negotiations.
