TRTA: TRADE-RELATED TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE

Follow-up to intermediate trade policy courses

Follow-up actions include universities establishing academic programmes on WTO matters, such as a multidisciplinary Masters programme or a module in an undergraduate or postgraduate Degree, with the WTO also supporting academic activities (e.g. seminars, training programmes) organized by these partner universities, in the form of speakers and the donation of publications. Research papers published in journals, books and periodicals will give an indication of the quality and potential impact of the research work. The academic institutions are also expected to interact with policy makers, with a view to encouraging the incorporation of relevant research Outputs into policymaking. Commitment from the hosting institutions and sustainable strategies will be put in place by the academic institutions so that they can continue once the WTO finance support is withdrawn.

Other follow-up activities and features can include:

  • regional specialized courses on specific issues jointly taught with academics from the region;

  • participation of WTO officials in academic events organized by the universities;

  • enhanced utilization of regional academics, as consultants, in the delivery of technical assistance and training activities;

  • inputs into vocational training;

  • e-Training activities; and,

  • curriculum development.
