ADPIC@25: Commémoration du 25ème anniversaire de l'Accord sur les ADPIC

Pour célébrer le 25ème anniversaire de l'Accord sur les aspects des droits de propriété intellectuelle qui touchent au commerce (Accord sur les ADPIC) en 2020, le Secrétariat a organisé un événement commémoratif le 24 novembre 2020, lequel a été suivi d'une série de webinaires avec les parties prenantes concernées, qui se poursuit en 2021, pour réfléchir au passé, au présent et à l'avenir du traité multilatéral le plus complet sur la protection des droits de propriété intellectuelle et les moyens de les faire respecter.

This webinar discusses economic and statistical issues stemming from the growth of cross-border trade in knowledge associated with TRIPS implementation, including the challenges of measuring trade in IP content, and modelling the interaction of IP protection with trade and economic development.

TRIPS@25 – Webinar: TRIPS and Competition – 29 April 2021, 11 a.m. EST

Book Launch of "Competition Policy and Intellectual Property in Today's Global Economy". This volume responds to the active engagement, policy development and practical implementation of measures to bolster a positive linkage between IP and competition in jurisdictions around the world, including in the BRICS and other major developing and transition economies, and in developed jurisdictions. It surveys developments and policy issues in this area from an international and comparative perspective. The discussion will situate current policy developments at the national level in the context of debates and developments in the multilateral setting, at WIPO, WTO and elsewhere.

TRIPS@25 – Webinar: TRIPS and Trade in Knowledge – 20 April 2021, 11 a.m. EST

This webinar explores the burgeoning trade in knowledge within the framework of TRIPS – the growth and diversity of trade in digital products as defined by IPRs, trade on digital platforms, and the knowledge component of global value chains. It covers how IP and licensing practices define and enable trade in digital products, how they support trade on digital platforms, as well as the question of coherence with the overall trading system.

This webinar discusses the role of TRIPS implementation from the perspective of the biotechnology field, covering agricultural, environmental and health dimensions, and the practical linkage with biodiversity measures.

TRIPS@25 – Virtual Symposium: Celebrating 25 years of the TRIPS Agreement – 24 November 2020, 10 a.m. EST

This virtual Symposium reflects on the legal and institutional development and impact of the TRIPS Agreement over 25 years.

Beginning with personal reflections by the first and the current chair of the TRIPS Council, the morning sessions track different aspects of the implementation and operation of the TRIPS Agreement since its inception.

The afternoon sessions then provide a current view on TRIPS and the multilateral IP system in the broad fields of development, digitization and new technologies. The event closes with a round table on "TRIPS 2.0? The TRIPS Agreement as a framework for development in the knowledge economy".

While TRIPS was negotiated and agreed among international policy-makers, its implementation and application under national law has been the work of lawyers, attorneys and judges across the wide spectrum of jurisdictions in WTO Members. This webinar explores the perspectives of IP practitioners and judges on 25 years of TRIPS in practice.

This webinar looks at practical examples of the TRIPS framework as a means for MSMEs, particularly in developing countries, to strengthen the value added to their products through branding.
