L'OMC lance le 15ème cours de politique commerciale
Au cours d'une brève cérémonie qui s'est tenue ce jour, M. Paul-Henri Ravier, Directeur général adjoint de l'Organisation mondiale du commerce, a ouvert officiellement le 15ème cours de politique commerciale organisé sous l'égide de l'OMC.

Au nom du Directeur général de l'OMC, M. Mike Moore, M. Ravier a souhaité la bienvenue aux 28 fonctionnaires responsables des questions commerciales et leur a déclaré: Pour traiter de la mondialisation, il faut être mondial soi-même. Il a du reste parlé à ce sujet de la possibilité d'accroître la capacité de formation de l'OMC, qui est actuellement examinée par les Membres de l'OMC dans le cadre de la préparation du budget pour 2001. M. Ravier a également souligné le vif intérêt que M. Mike Moore porte aux activités destinées à améliorer la capacité des pays les moins avancés à participer au système commercial multilatéral.
C'est la première fois que des fonctionnaires venant d'Arménie, de la Fédération de Russie, d'Iran et de Vanuatu participent à ce type de cours ordinaire.
Les 28 participants venus de pays et de territoires douaniers en développement vont suivre le cours de 12 semaines qui se terminera le 8 décembre 2000. Depuis leur création en 1955, 93 cours de politique commerciale ordinaires ont été organisés sous l'égide du GATT puis de l'OMC et près de 2 000 fonctionnaires ont pu suivre cette formation. En outre, un certain nombre de cours de politique commerciale de courte durée sont également organisés par l'OMC dans le cadre de son programme de coopération technique.
