El Acuerdo sobre Facilitación del Comercio de la OMC impone a los Miembros de la Organización la obligación de establecer y/o mantener un comité nacional de facilitación del comercio, o de designar un mecanismo existente, para facilitar la coordinación interna y la aplicación del Acuerdo. Un evento de intercambio de experiencias que se celebrará en la OMC el 8 de junio tendrá por objetivo identificar las mejores prácticas en relación con el establecimiento o mantenimiento de los comités nacionales, así como los desafíos que enfrentan los Miembros a este respecto.

The programme is divided into five sessions: 1) Defining the purpose and mandate of the national committee; 2) Designing an institutional framework; 3) Strategies for defining a roadmap for the national committee; 4) Ensuring the proper functioning and long-term adaptability of the national committee; 5) How WTO members can request assistance for establishing or maintaining such committees.
The event will provide an opportunity for experiences to be shared by government officials and international organizations which have been involved in developing strategies for creating or establishing a national committee. It will be chaired by Amb. Esteban B. Conejos, Chairman of the Preparatory Committee on Trade Facilitation.
